Dr. Nathan J. Michaels holds a PhD in neuroimmunology from the University of Calgary and has over ten years of experience using precision research techniques to develop cell and drug therapies for central nervous system disorders. Nathan is the co-inventor of a novel drug for secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, has published in several academic journals and international publications, and has worked in a pharmaceutical policy and management environment for three years. As Director of Precision Medicine and Genetic Services, he sets the strategic direction for precision medicine and genomics for the province and leads the development of policy, legislative frameworks, and guidelines for precision medicines, gene and cellular therapies, and related innovative therapeutic areas.
