The Importance of Genomics in the Pandemic

The importance of real time sequencing has become evident from past outbreaks such as Ebola outbreak 2014-2016. BC has history of using WGS for tacking transmission in TB, HepC and HIV. Sequencing alone, however, is not enough. This pandemic has shown us that three components must be working well: o Real time sequencing o Real time data sharing (including a minimum informative access to metadata linked to sequences) o Data analysis and interpretation (to assess the effect of changes on virus biology and to integrate data with clinical information for real time public health decision making
