Agri-Smart: Feeding the World in a Changing Climate
Intense forest fires and droughts are becoming the norm in British Columbia. In fact, weather events in 2021 were the most damaging ever recorded. The summer heat dome and devastating floods in the fall severely impacted the agriculture sector, killing hundreds of thousands of farm animals and damaging farms and crops, costing BC producers hundreds of millions of dollars and impacting the food supply. Climate emergency threatens BC’s more than seventeen thousand small, family-owned farms, who need innovative, climate-focused solutions to strengthen BC’s agriculture sector resilience in the face of climate change and severe weather. By addressing climate change and reducing environmental impact through innovation and Indigenous ways of knowing, BC food producers can address local food security and sustainability.
In this session stakeholders, industry partners, local governments, and innovators will convene to highlight shared challenges and innovative solutions with societal and economic demands insight.
