Speaker Bio
Ann C. Thresher is a philosopher of science and environmental biotech ethicist who thinks about how to maximize the benefits of science while minimizing the risks. She is a founding member of the new environmental biotech council, consults with the US government on ethics and science policy, and works extensively with scientists and local communities on how to do science in ways that benefit everyone.
Her 2023 co-authored book, 'The Tangle of Science: Reliability Beyond Method, Rigour, and Objectivity,' examines how science works and why we should trust what it tells us. Beyond biotech, she is also a project lead at the Next Generation Event Horizon Telescope, where she guides conversations about where to build telescopes and how to conduct large-scale experiments in ways that are conscious of environmental and community factors.
