This webinar explores two innovative platforms reshaping health research. Genome BC's Health Metadata Commons is a central hub for storing and sharing metadata related to human biological samples and omics research data. This facilitates data reuse, accelerates scientific breakthroughs and advances personalized medicine. Meanwhile, protocols.io provides a secure space for developing and disseminating reproducible research methods, addressing the lack of detailed instructions in research papers. The platform enhances reproducibility and gives credit to method developers.

What you'll learn in this session:

  • What is metadata
  • Benefits of Genome BC’s Metadata Commons
  • Understand the importance of detailed methods for reproducibility.
  • Gain familiarity with the protocols.io platform.

About Our Speakers

Lenny Teytelman
CEO and CoFounder, protocols.io

Lenny Teytelman has over a decade of computational and experimental biology experience. He did his graduate studies at UC Berkeley, and it was his struggle with correcting a published research method as a postdoc at MIT that led him to co-found protocols.io in 2012. Lenny brings to protocols.io a strong passion for open access, sharing knowledge, and improving research efficiency through technology.

Emma Ganley
Director of Strategic Initiatives, protocols.io

Emma Ganley earned her PhD from the MRC-LMB in Cambridge, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at UC Berkeley. While at Berkeley, she closely followed the Open Access movement and the debut of PLOS. This led her to join the team at PLOS Biology for the first time in 2005 as an Associate Editor. In 2007, she moved to New York and became the Executive Editor of the Journal of Cell Biology at Rockefeller University Press. Emma returned to the UK in 2010. She worked at the University of Dundee for two years before rejoining PLOS Biology as a Senior Editor. At PLOS Biology, she rose to the position of Chief Editor and remained there until 2019. In 2020, she joined protocols.io as the Director of Strategic Initiatives.
