After retiring from the for-profit sector, running this museum is his passion. He is well connected in the science promotion community in Toronto.

 

Johanne Revoredo

An Ontario Certified Teacher, Johanne has a passion for education, and empowering youth to live up to their fullest potential. She has been very involved in leadership initiatives with youth within the school boards over the years. She also works with ESL students from all over the world.

In her down time, Johanne is very involved in health & fitness and advocacy, and aims to share this passion with students.

 

Emma Blanche

Emma graduated from Acadia University (Wolfville, Nova Scotia) in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Biology. After graduating, she volunteered as a counsellor with the Ottawa Rape Crisis Line and the Kids' Help Phone Crisis Text Line. She is also the chair of Digital Communications for Fertility Matters Canada and a volunteer with Genome BC's Geneskool program. To gain exposure to genetic counselling, she worked as a Genetic Counselling Research Assistant at the BC Children's and Women's hospital and was fortunate to have the opportunity to shadow at the BC Cancer Clinic. In her spare time, Emma enjoys hiking, reading and poetry, and embroidery. 

 

Aaron Liu

Aaron Liu recently completed his PhD at UBC studying Experimental Medicine. He currently works under the supervision of Drs. Soren Gantt and Agatha Jassem at BC Children’s Hospital and BC Centre for Disease Control, having previously worked with Dr. Tobias Kollmann at the Vaccine Evaluation Centre since 2017. His research involves using next-generation sequencing to understand viral infection and vaccine derived immunity. His interests are in developing high throughput assays to measure antibody responses to viral infections to aid the development of vaccines and epidemiological surveillance of Coronavirus infections . Aaron has previously held the BCCHR Healthy Starts Studentship and currently holds UBC’s Four Year Fellowship. He currently serves as Genome BC’s Geneskool Rural Outreach Coordinator and Co-Director of the GeneSkool Summer Programme. In addition, he has volunteered through Science World’s Scientists and Innovators in Schools Programme. He will be returning in the fall to UBC’s B.Ed. Programme focusing on continuing his work rural science education.

 

Brittany Morgan, MPH

Community engagement Coordinator, Silent Genomes Project

Brittany Morgan is Nuu-chah-nulth and Secwépemc but grew up in a small community near her traditional territory on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. She completed her Bachelor of Science with a major in Microbiology and minor in Biology at the University of Victoria (UVIC) in 2015. Her volunteer and work experience that were centred within Indigenous run organizations and non-profits is what encouraged her to pursue graduate school. She completed her Master’s in Public Health with an Indigenous Peoples focus area at UVIC in August 2020. Part way through her graduate program she joined the Silent Genomes Project as one of the Community Engagement Coordinators.  At times it was tough to juggle work and school, but she persevered and has learned a lot about Indigenous Peoples’ health and governance, social determinants of health, and health equity. Brittany spends her spare time hiking with her chihuahua named ‘Pickles’, paddle boarding, and reading (Indigenous fiction and mystery novels).

 

Julia Tagoe - MSc, MSc, CCGC, CGC
Julia is a Genetic Counsellor with AHS based in Lethbridge since 2010. Julia provides genetic counselling through the Hereditary Cancer Clinic and Cardiogenetics Clinic, and supporting the Geneticist-led Medical Genetics Outreach Clinic. Originally from New Brunswick, Julia completed an undergraduate degree in Biology at Acadia University, followed by a Masters in Medical and Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto, and then completing a Masters of Science in Genetic Counselling at McGill University. Julia’s  research interests / publications have been varied, from a phylogenic analysis in blueberries, DNA palindrome-mediated genomic instability, directed evolution of Inteins, response to Hereditary Cancer Family History Questionnaires, homozygous desmocollin-2 mutations as a cause of ARVC in the Hutterite community and most recently developing and implementing a Zoom-based webinar for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy genetic testing. Julia is an active member of the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors, serving for a third year on the Board of Directors as Communication Director. 

 

Shiva Zargar
 

Shiva is currently taking her Ph.D. program under the supervision of Professor Qingshi Tu at Sustainable Bioeconomy Research Group at the University of British Columbia.

Shiva’s Ph.D. project focuses on developing databases and models for evaluating the role of forest biorefineries in achieving a sustainable bioeconomy.

Meanwhile, Shiva is a Sustainability Scholar at the City of Vancouver, Planning, Urban Design and Sustainability, working on a project titled "Researching the embodied carbon reduction potential of low-rise construction and development of a low-carbon building supply inventory".

On top of these, Shiva is following one of her main passions which is educating children about STEM, serving as Executive Coordinator with UBC Let’s Talk Science, a charitable STEM outreach organization.

With two master’s degrees in Engineering and Biology, and conducting Ph.D. program in Forestry Department at UBC in Vancouver, Shiva is experienced, STEM mindset and self-motivated graduate student offering valuable life cycle assessment experience for evaluation of various products supply chains. Shiva is result oriented with a proven track record of working collaboratively with team members to achieve goals.
 

 

 

Ciaran Phillip

I’m the scientist that is productive at the bench, resourceful when remote, and persuasive at the podium.

My skills in Forensic Science, Analytical Chemistry, Statistical Analysis, and Public Speaking enable me to not only gather and analyze data in the laboratory, but also explain complex information in face-to-face and virtual presentations.

While COVID-19 slowed the global economy I sped up my professional progression by rebranding my company Sure Science Consulting. I then collaborated with another freelancer to jointly secure a retainer as Editors for a Social Scientist authoring her first book. Together we’ve copy edited over 200 pages for the book and a 5000 word paper for an academic journal. Additionally, I was engaged as a short-term Consultant by the St. Kitts and Nevis Forensic Department. In that capacity I composed a thorough technical report on the chemical development and digital enhancement of fingerprint evidence.

My strong writing skills also caught the attention of the Canadian Multicultural Inventors Museum. After initially coming on as a Writer I now operate as a Facilitator presenting to schools and community groups. In November 2020 I used Microsoft Teams to present to over 100 students and teachers of the Peel District School Board, telling them my story and compelling them to see the earning potential of a STEM education. Since then I’ve been requested to speak at multiple secondary schools across Toronto, Mississauga, Markham, Richmond Hill, and Oakville with more requests coming in every day.
